Results of Village of Galway Survey from March/April 2023
Good afternoon, 4/13/2024
We were pleased to see that so many people were interested and responded.
In Summary:
A majority of the residents in the Village of Galway overwhelmingly do NOT want to form a separate taxing district for the 80 residences in the Village. The tax load for 80 residences would be too great for both a water system and a sewer system.
A few people were interested in possibly doing a feasibility study for an improved storm drainage system. IF we do this feasibility study in the future, we will be looking for grants to cover the cost of the study.
At this time we are looking to contract with a local company to map out our existing storm drainage system. The state DOT has no record of any storm drainage mapping records for State route 147 (as per the Village’s FOIL[Freedom of Information Law] request inquiry & inquiry to the Saratoga County regional engineer’s office), nor does the County DPW have mapping records for the existing storm drainage along county route 45. The County Dept. of Public Works did say that they cleaned out whatever needed it along county route 45 when they repaved the road in 2022.
We will be keeping an eye out for blockages in the existing drainage system and will get them taken care of. We cleaned out the area in the south parking lot of the old Galway Market. It turns out it was NOT a plugged storm drain system. The sump pump water was pouring out of the building and onto the lower grade in the parking lot which was not able to reach the existing catch basin, so a “swamp”, complete with cattails and lots of algae, etc, formed and made for a danger to pedestrians, especially in winter when ice formed and was concealed by snow. A few people had slipped and could have been badly injured. Since the “swamp” was cleared out we installed a sump pump hose which extends out to the catch basin. We’ll be keeping our eyes on that as well.
Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or information you would like to
share. We take pride in the cohesiveness of our Galway community and would
like to continue to encourage this spirit of community.
Thank you again for your participation. It is a great help to us all.
